SACRIFICE INCENSE TO YOUR GODS LIKE THE ANCIENTS...
... If You Want To Truly Atone With Their Powers

It is amazing how few neo-pagans and occultists today actually still use incense regularly in their rites and even fewer seem to know the reasons why they must do so. The general impression is that Incense is an optional technique used to enhance the ceremony but in fact it is CRUCIAL to the rite and should never be left out.

The magical methodology is all to do with the meaning of sacrifice. Due to the ceaseless activities of the gutter-press the word 'sacrifice' linked to religious ceremonies immediately conjurs up fearful images of terrible human or animal sacrifice in the minds of ordinary folk.

Strangely, the same word, when linked to charitable work of any kind is seen as something entirely different and usually infers a commendable expenditure of time and energy to help others. In fact the word sacrifice comes to us from the Latin word 'sacrificium' which originaly meant 'to make sacred' and inferred the offering of anything to a deity. The actual definition is:

'to consecrate or present by way of expiation or propitiation, or as a token of acknowledgement or thanksgiving to some divinity or to immolate on the altar of god, either as an atonement for sin, to procure favour or to express gratitude.

The original offerings were of course food or meal given in thanks and celebration with the gods for the fecundity of nature. Pious people are continuing that ancient tradition today when they say 'grace' before eating. At certain Jewish festivals, particularly Passover, some of the meal is still set aside 'for the archangel Gabriel'. And of course, every Xmas Eve many parents leave a snack for Santa Claus little realising they are making a propitiary offering to a pagan diety!

Food was the most visible bounty the gods have given mankind and so sharing it with them, returning some of the life-force back from whence it came, is natural, if only to secure a consistent flow of that food for the future in uncertain times when agriculture was not as consistent in its production as it is today. Later on came the idea of the 'burnt offering' as mentioned in the Bible. Instead of allowing the offering (now taboo) to decompose on the altar it was burned and transformed into fumes which could be seen to travel heavenwards.

This was far more fitting ceremonially but of course the smell was inappropriate and to both mask this ungodly odour and to increase the special nature of the offering the meal was mixed into an incense with exceedingly rare and precious aromatic oils, gums and resins to both sterilise and make the offering more pleasing and approachable to the gods. This incense was burned upon the sacred altars and the smoke used as a psychic vehicle to carry the pious intentions and prayers of the supplicant between the planes.

Despite what the gutter press may infer, actual human sacrifice was extremely rare and usually, in Rome for example, was a form of capital punishment for wrongdoers and captured enemy - similar to the way that the U.S.A is still executing its criminals today when a priest blesses the condemned man to save his soul before he goes into the execution chamber.

Incidences of animal sacrifice were much more prevalent in ancient times but are nearly always taken out of context by the gutter-press of today who try to infer that it was a form of cruelty, when in fact animals were slaughtered wisely and usually for the main festivals so that everyone in the community could feast upon them. Only a portion of the animal (usually the most prized parts such as the liver) were offered to the gods and the rest was eaten in the feast.

I am a vegetarian but the contrast between selecting an animal at certain times during the year to be sacrificed in celebration of a deity and create plenty for the future for everyone seems a step up from the wholesale slaughter of battery-reared beef and chicken by McSanders today which few bother to complain about.

Animal sacrifice therefore was simply the slaughtering of chosen animals for communal feasting and was an integral part of the lives of those rural communities. Because of the industrial methods of meat production today most people are far removed from having to slaughter one's own food, but to our ancestors it was the natural way to do it. No self respecting pagan therefore would take from any other animate or inanimate thing without an offering of thanks both to the spirit of the animal and the gods.

The purest sacrifice of all, both morally and spiritually, is the sacrifice of Incense to the gods. Esotericists hold that the fire element of the thurible converts the molecules of the incense into a form which can travel through the planes. This purifies the temple, creates a perfumed area within the workroom which will be at one and the same time attractive to the god or goddess invoked, whilst also banishing any other vibrations and energies which are antipodean. The fact that genuine incense formulae tend to incorporate highly expensive raw ingredients and costly aromatics is a bonus in that the 'sacrifice' has to be real and it has to be worthwhile. Any 'sacrifice' which is within the comfort zone of the user is no sacrifice at all. incense from the S.A. is probably the best you can get. Reassuringly expensive, as they say.

The fact is that no genuine magical or pagan rite can function properly without the use of ritual incense. Many pagans think that one incense is adequate for all purposes but of course just as each incense formula has differing constituents which are reflected in a distinct aroma, so that odour itself is a vibration which appears differently to beings on other planes of existence. Thus to invite all gods into one's magical circle using just one incense is a kind of esoteric insult as well as being technically wrong.

This is why the S.A. offers what is probably the widest range of incense formulae in the world ( See here for our full list ) So that the witch or magician can select just the right incense and keep it holy just for their work with that particular godform. Similarly our range of incenses for the pagan festivals is created to reflect the currents of energy specific to the festivals themselves. Every pagan should traditionally use incense repeatedly in their worship and those who don't are missing out on a whole new spiritual dimension. Try it once and you will see.

Of course there are many more initiated secrets involved in the art of incense blending, including the addition of powerful magical acumulators and precious stones and minerals which you won't find in the formulae books currently available to the general public but which Marabas in his wisdom, always incorporates.

Incense is a magical tool. Just as you wouldn't ever think of casting a circle without your Athame or magical sword, an experienced and knowledgeable adept would never conduct a rite without the use of the most appropriate incense.

By tradition there is even an incense (Dittany B2009 ) for use in the Triangle of Art to keep any Elementals or 'Demons' you invoke during your magic entrained and restricted within the fumes so they cannot escape and thus do your bidding safely.

When you choose your magical or devotional incense do so wisely and relax confident in the knowledge that incense from the S.A. has been used by both newcomers and adepts for over three decades.

As in Biblical Times So Today, These 100 feet high genuine Cedars of Lebannon could actually be the same ones the Holy scribes knew when they were completing their writings. Located on the 7,000 feet high Djebel el Arz mountain ridge these trees are believed to live for thouands of years. Wood from them was used for sacred purposes and in holy incense formulae.

Magical Oils, Incenses,  Concoctions - Precautions in use.

Genuine Magical Oils. ungeunts, incenses and concoctions are made from natural ingredients and have been used in ceremonial for thousands of years. Thousands of priests, magicians and shamans have spent their time repetitively working with various magical oils and incenses during their ceremonies over hundreds of years. Marabas has been making and working with these very same natural substances almost every day for over 30 years and he hasn't had a problem. Neither have the thousands of clients who used our concoctions during that time. Many of the ingredients in magical oils and incenses are actually used elsewhere for their helpful medicinal qualities yet under recent Europe regulations magical oils  / incenses  are classed as an 'untested' substance and we must advise the following precautions.

We provide traditional, genuine magical oils & incense formulae as used by the ancients for selective, irregular, non-habitual usage over limited periods of time.  We do not include any toxic ingredients in our magical oils or incenses, as defined under the limits set out in the regulations. People who are asthmatic or who have breathing problems may wish to ask us to advise an alternative.  We are required to provide the following statements to comply with Europe regulations: People with very sensitive skin or allergies should avoid excessive use of magical oils / incenses  which in some formulations contain powerful  natural oils and resins which may irritate sensitive skin.  If you are so sensitive then after contact with skin wash immediately with plenty of soap suds.   Do not take internally; if swallowed seek medical advice and show containers and labels. Avoid putting magical oils into your Eyes; in case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with plenty of water and if necessary seek medical advice. Keep out of the Reach of Children. Magical oils are designated as a Cosmetic Parfum which has not been tested on animals. Magical Oils/unguents / incenses are on record as still being aromatic after more than 3,000 years but are best used within 18 months of purchase.   Remember; if anyone tries to sell you a 'magical oil' / incense without these precautions - it isn't  a real magical oil!   (the doctrine of signatures is not scientifically corroborated)
