Most people do not realise that despite apparent public glorification of human rights in relation to freedom of thought and religion, sectarians from the major orthodoxies have been waging a propaganda war against alternative and minority philosophies using age-old scares. Such sectarian scares are designed to divide society, not protect it. At the Sphinx we do not censor any aspect of occultism or any religious belief providing it is validly held (i.e. genuinely believed in) and 'it harms none'. It is not our purpose to add to the intolerance which is growing apace within the netcommunity* and society today, but to educate, elucidate, inform and generate an understanding of the manifold differing beliefs and philosophies which are gathered together under the terms Occult and Supernatural. This approach allows of ALL races, ALL religions, ALL sexes, ALL Intellects and ALL philosophies. The purpose of occultism is Wanting To Know. WE WANT TO KNOW but there are hundreds of thousands of pious bigots out there who would deny you the succour of your own religious and spiritual convictions, and stop you from looking into those which others hold - if they could. Such self-righteous absolutists classify everything which is without their own paradigm as 'Satanic', no matter how innocuous the philosophies may be - and therefore feel justified in treating you as subversive or even criminal type.
Some people, those who are still in the thrall of the evil propaganda which is put out by the major orthodoxies to cripple freedom of choice , may find it initially disconcerting to see, for example, Announcements placed by Christian Mystics alongside Announcements made by Satanists. The answer of course is that with the melting pot that is the S.A. you have an uncensored choice to pick the contacts which suit YOU. The paradox of true spiritual development is thus: Only by consciously rejecting the things which do not fit can you find the things which do. Only then can you be sure that your choice has been fully informed and free.
The answer is simple. When looking at the Announcements pick the best and ignore the rest.
It now seems that the censorship of cyberspace, ( a complete anathema to the motives and principles of those who pioneered and developed the Internet), is steadily becoming commonplace amongst IPs as the dead-hand of Xism catches up with the net and brings pressure to bear on the Information Providers. IPs appear to have given way under the pressure - the price they are being forced to pay exceeds their principles for a truly uncensored net. Because all this has happened surreptitiously there has been few if any eruptions from net-users about it. Most users do not realise that these restrictions have followed on the heels of a campaign by Xists to control the spectrum of information on the Net. Ostensibly their campaign is focussed upon hard criminal activity, but can be used as a blind by fundamentalists to force IPs to restrict the supply of alternative information. Many of the lists of 'banned sites' are compiled by fundamentalist organisations for software companies for free or are the result of lists of sites nominated for censorship by fundamentalist sleepers who trawl the net for anything relating to alternative beliefs (which they see as evil no matter how inoccuous) . Their lists will, of course, include any and every site which has any occult or New Age connection. But free thinkers on the net can hit back. Search engines get a lot of their income from advertising, the level of which depends upon the number of users. Freethinkers should test each and every search engine they normally use to see if it will search and find links for controversial subjects. If so you can be sure that your freedom of choice is not being eroded. One way of doing this is to search for websites promulgating those things which opportunist politicians always tirade against. Marabas says, ' the worth of any debate is gauged not by what it includes, but by what is left out'. We recommend Alta Vista, Google and Web-Crawler but there are many others which you can find by clicking on this link. These lesser known search-engines are being overshadowed as big business takes over the net and gobbles up control of large parts of cyberspace. We recommend that you try these pioneers first and do not simply rely on the search-engine link provided by your IPs homepage. As always, the Xists want to keep you ignorant so that they can better manipulate your mind towards their world-view. It is up to you whether you let them.
